Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!

This month Healthy Horizons celebrates National Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month,September 15th to October 15th, which honors and celebrates the rich cultural influences, history and contributions of Hispanic/Latinx Americans in the United States. It also celebrates the many cultures of those who come from, or whose ancestors come from Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Spain.

There are over 28 countries that make up the Hispanic/Latinx community, and while 80% of the Hispanic/Latinx population in the United States wish to initiate breastfeeding, only 16% can meet the national guidelines of six months exclusive breastfeeding that is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as referenced by the United States Breastfeeding Coalition (USBC).

It is part of the mission of Healthy Horizons to empower all lactating and new parents at work and at home. The CEO and Co-Founder, Sheila Janakos, MPH, IBCLC states why Healthy Horizons was founded, “I wanted every family to have access to non judgmental support for their breastfeeding journey.”
