We love looking at the heartwarming smile of a baby, here are some ways to continue the growth of those beautiful baby teeth. Some of us have been victims of cavity causing bacteria, and as parents we want to protect our child from the cavity monster. How can a baby know that the bacteria on their teeth will lead to frightful dentist appointments in the future? So it’s up to us, the adults, who have made some dental care mistakes in the past. BUT, a large handful of us have hopefully learned a few things about brushing and flossing.
1. Start Early
First thing to keep in mind is to start oral care as early as possible. Begin with cleaning the gums with a warm wet washcloth. Once the first baby teeth start growing out begin an oral hygiene routine.
2. Benefits of Healthy Teeth
If I haven’t convinced you to care about baby teeth, this one might do the trick. Healthy baby teeth means little to no oral discomfort for the baby. Your baby will chew food enjoyably, will learn to speak clearly, and will always smile comfortably.
3. Consequences of No Oral Care
A snowball effect will follow if the teeth are uncared for. Tooth decay can lead to gum infections and eventually impact the spacing of permanent teeth.
4. Bad Habits
Next we must ask ourselves what are we doing wrong? The most common cause of tooth decay is when the baby nurses from a bottle of milk, formula or juice during naps and bedtimes. If you’re going to feed your baby at night or before naps I would do the following: make sure they end the snack with a glass of water to wash off the baby’s teeth or get started with a baby’s toothbrush. Toothbrush time can be a new exciting activity before the baby goes to sleep.
5. Make the Toothbrush Your Baby's Best Friend
And to top it off, our product of the month, Jack N’ Jill provides safe, organic, and eco friendly toothbrushes and toothpaste. The fun animal themed toothbrushes and the fruit flavored toothpaste will make brushing teeth a blast!
